4. Hidden Britain: Wales

Staying in Wales has entered into a Heads of Agreement with Hidden Britain: Wales in support of a £1m Big Lottery Funding application to help encourage eighty rural communities across Wales to market their village or town and all it has to offer visitors. The funding application has been made under the BLF ‘People and Places’ programme, which is exclusive to Wales and will help give the eighty communities a marketing edge over other UK destinations.
Hidden Britain: Wales is a new project to help rural communities develop coherent presentations of attractions and amenities, culture, stories, heritage both built and natural, events and activities to visitors and tourists. Based on a well proven concept already active elsewhere (see
www.hidden-britain.co.uk), 80 locations in Wales will join the family of Hidden Britain Centres across the UK.
Each location will need a minimum range of involved businesses and will include the local community in shaping the uniqueness of each place. The lottery bid for a three year development project is being processed. The Wales Co-operative Centre is the lead body. If you would ike to see if your place could be one of the first in Wales? 5. See What’s Nearby Mapping

As a result of our development programme this year, Wales has taken a lead in the application of Google Maps and Google Earth to market ‘micro-destinations’ on the internet using intelligent ‘See What’s Nearby’ mapping. This lead is likely to increase via the Hidden Britain: Wales project.
Free Web Browser Downloads
‘Google Maps’ is compatible with all modern browsers, MS Internet Explorer 5.6 or Firefox as a minimum. The latest versions can be downloaded free as follows:

As part of the new property grading harmonisation, provision is being made to display AA grading logos alongside the new Visit Wales logos in subscribers’ Staying in Wales web pages and Wales.info websites.
