About our location: The hotel is situated on the main high street in Machynlleth, called 'Maglona' by the Romans but to us it's Mach. It's a vibrant, lively little Welsh market town, of two thousand people, that politician and prominent Jacobite Sir Watcyn Williams-Wynn chose for his little pied -a-terre on a site known now as 'The Wynnstay, Herbert Arms and Unicorn Hotel' to give it its full name. Built as a town house at the end of the 18th Century, the hotel's individuality reflects the independence of the spirit that characterises the area. There is private car-parking now at the back of the hotel, half a dozen great family walks from the hotel and four superb mountain-bike trails nearby to test skills of all levels. Nearby attractions are Corris Craft Centre, King Arthur's Labyrinth, Fairbourne Railway, the Talyllyn Mountain Railway and Centre for Alternative Technology. All around there is unspoilt countryside with mountains stretching inland from the River Dyfi and miles of clean golden beaches.
