Tribal capital of the Silures (Venta Silurum) - impressive 4th-century walls standing up to 17 feet high. Excavated houses, Forum-Basilica and a Romano-Celtic temple also remain.

11 miles south of Newport, off the M48. Cadw. 44 acre site of a Roman town. Much of the 4th century wall remains. There are excavated houses and a Romano-Celtic temple. Caerwent was the tribal capital of the Silures. Just off A48, 5m SW of Chepstow

Opening Hours: Access is available at all reasonable times. This will normally be between 10:00 and 16:00 daily.
 

The Wall:
Which survives to 25' (8 metres) in places is almost complete around the whole site and is believed to have been built around AD200 to counter the threat from Saxon invaders up the Welsh coast
