Staying in Wales and Dining Out in Wales

This Week is negotiating to fill the market gap created by the WDA Food Directorate's discontinuation of the 'Taste of Wales' brand. New 'Staying in Wales' and 'Dining Out in Wales' consumer information brands have been introduced to build on the marketing momentum achieved by Taste of Wales.

The Food Directorate has advised Taste of Wales members that the Taste of Wales scheme is being wound down in favour of the True Taste/Gwir Flas hospitality scheme, which will be limited to 160 accredited restaurants.

A large majority of Taste of Wales members, however, provide accommodation and have always seen the Taste of Wales scheme as an important generator of bed bookings. Whilst this has never been the prime aim of the Food Directorate, substantial investment had been made in a full range of marketing activity to realise this potential.

Following recent discussions with the Directorate, This Week is now able to offer these services direct under a new 'Staying in Wales/Aros yng Nghymru' brand that will replace the 'Taste of Wales/Blas ar Gymru' brand in literature and Internet communications that This Week produce. There will also be a 'Dining Out in Wales/Ciniawa yng Nghymru' brand for restaurants.

The brands will be information communication brands rather than accreditations. The only qualifications are that that members with accommodation should be accredited by the Wales Tourist Board, registered with the DMS, registered with This Week (via the DMS), and be owners of Microsites on the ThisWeek.co.uk network in to gain full benefit from the new scheme.

Entry into the new scheme will be automatic to Taste of Wales members that already fulfil these qualifications but help is at hand to those that don't. Members will not be obliged to register availability or use the bed-booking system offered by the DMS, and there will be no commission payable on bookings achieved from enquiries that come direct from This Week.co.uk or any of its marketing Partners.

Funding of £80,000 has already been achieved to support ongoing developments and an Expression of Interest document (see 'Downloads' below) has been submitted to the Wales Tourist Board for a further £175,000 of national joint marketing funding to extend the new scheme. It will be important to know how many members wish to participate and This Week has circulated a Registration of Interest form (see 'Downloads' below) to all Taste of Wales members to determine the strength of interest.
